I'm a freshman in college, and our first assignment , well one of the first was to play all of out scales at least 3 octaves. It was hard work, but now that I can play all my scales 3 octaves and I do it everyday, playing has become a lot easier. So in my case, this whole scale thing is working. my two cents -Robert Carter
