I can't quite picture the dimensions you are referring to. I have seen players
with shortened shanks on their mouthpiece, which shows support for your belief
that shortening the distance from the bore to the venturi can be beneficial.
However, I made a quick sketch showing the mouthpiece cup, bore, borelength,
backbore, the receiver tapering to the venturi, then the leadpipe flaring out
from the venturi. From the little I know about acoustic resonators, the sketch
convinced me this is a very complicated set of relationships. I have seen many
explanations of the effect of changes to each individual component, but never
the interaction of the chamber taken as a whole. The information Lawson has
presented over the years suggests he has a lot of experience working this
problem.

A good set of rubber lips with an air tank, and a microphone and oscilloscope
could probably be a good start on a very worthwhile project, but I'd be
surprised to see the results made public.
