I think it is a proven fact that not all mouthpieces work the same on all
horns. I have begrudgingly switched cups and shanks to accommodate a different
horn (but always use the same rim). My beloved teacher at Juilliard, Ray
DeIntinis used to joke that if he were to be robbed on the streets of NY, he
would say "Take everything but my mouthpiece". He never switched horns either,
starting out in the NY Philharmonic with a silver Kruspe and moving to his
pre-letter 8D. In typical Pandolfi fashion, I LOVE to play different horns, so
my paraphrase to Dinny's line would be "Take everything but my rim!"

Do most of you, if you regularly play more than one horn, use the same
mouthpiece or do you find a favorite mouthpiece for each horn? I assume the
reason for playing more than one horn is that they're different, perhaps one
smaller bore and one larger, and I'm curious to know how many of you change
your mouthpiece, and in what way, to accomodate the difference in the horn.

My guess is that most of you stick with the same mouthpiece but, like I
said, I'm curious to know if some people don't and what their reasoning
might be.

Thanks.
