As I believe the characteristic sound of the horn
comes from the low F side of the F/Bb double or triple
I choose to have my horn stand in low F. Many people
choose to use compensating double horns with very
inferior sounding low F sides. This leads to a
dependence to the Bb horn and resulting sound/overtone
series.

As for triple horns, the Paxman triple horn has a
separate tuning slide for the high F side rather than
using the lead-pipe extension for tuning, as in the
Finke(this lead-pipe tuning extension is very annoying
by the way). The Paxman triple horn also has a
separate first branch taper for the High F side.
This is very important for sound issues in the high f
side and moving between the different sides of the
horns.

As for fingerings on the Paxman, I am already pressing
down the Bb side with the lower part of my thumb, I
just press down the top lever with the tip of my
thumb. A no-brainer.

Some people said the triple is a thing for people
getting on in years? I am 30 something and basically
indestructable with horn with endurance and range, but
the triple makes certain passages more clear and
perfect.

The weight of the Paxman I own is a non-issue.

The same goes for considering a new car, PLAY before
you buy even if you have to fly somewhere to try a
fellow hornplayers Axe!!!
