There is a tradition of having conventions in interesting travel
destinations, e.g., a bunch of American doctors getting together in China
just because they want to go there and have it be tax-deductible.  Nothing
wrong with that, IMHO.  

The only problem is if the location causes people who would otherwise go not
to, and in greater numbers than the destination attracts.  Tough to know
without taking a survey of the members.
