I shared this correspondent's problems to the extent that I grew a bone spur on
my finger. It was exacerbated by the fact that I have a very heavy horn.
A horn strap was a help, but felt constricting and clumsy. The duck's foot and
horn stand felt unnatural.
This week I had the opportunity of visiting Osmun Brass in Boston. The
technician (cornologist) moved the pinky ring up and to the right, and angled
the thumb trigger so the combination was a good match for the shape of my hand.
Finally, a small hinged hand rest was added, putting the weight of the horn
between the base of the thumb and forefinger.
Altogether, a great solution.
Thank you to Osmun Brass, who could not have been more helpful, efficient and
welcoming.
