My Holton H180 is 24 years old. The valves are still practically new. There is no wiggle when you grab the rotor shafts a wiggle them. I play a lot, so the horn is not just sitting in the case.
Under the backbearing caps I have Teflon grease. On the shafts I have used molybdenumdisulfide grease. Yes, that is bad if you get it on your tux shirt. Forget valve oil, which is kerosene and has no lubrication to it.
