Dear All

I posted this reply to a similar enquiry on the other list recently:

Dear All

Dennis Brain went on to an Alexander single B flat horn which had the
mouthpipe angled somewhat to give the 'feel' of his Raoux piston horn.
This horn was badly damaged in the accident when Brain lost his life and
was subsequently restored by Paxmans. It is now in the museum of the Royal
Academy of Music in London and has been played in public at RAM concerts by
Michael Thompson and Richard Watkins.

I understand that DB did try, and own, other horns from time to time. At
one time, one of the Manchester professionals, a slightly younger
contemporary of Brain, had a horn with an unusual configuration (I think B
flat/C alto but I may be wrong) which he had purchased from Brain. Before
anybody asks, he is long since retired, does not have the horn now, and
does not know who has!

Cheers

Paul A. Kampen (W. Yorks UK)
