Hornfolks; I know most of you are tired as all get out of this thread, but I
did try to put my 2 cents in and the message was bounced for some reason. I
did work it out with the sysadmin though.

Here is my take.

1) Threads. Wipe them with a soft cloth. Put nothing on them. Gently attach
the bell; gently. Make certain you are putting the bell on in the correct
thread direction. Be patient, if not, your bell will crumple or one can strip
the threads.  After all it really does not take all that long to attach a bell;
the only circumstance is if you run into rehearsal late and have to play in 30
seconds.....and that is rare.

2) Cleaning the insides of the horn. What works for me is DAWN detergent (you
can even bathe birds in it). A little bit in lukewarm water. Remove all
slides. Immerse horn; let it soak. If you have a snake, use it on the
leadpipe as most of the crud gets inside there-yes I see you horn players
snarfing chocolate before those musicals.......

Oil/Grease: your choice; your problem if it doesn't work. I shall not advise
on this at all.

best wishes
Rachel
