During the break between a rehearsal and gig and short of things to do, I
fell into conversation with a bassoon player. He asked me if I knew the Cesar
Franck Sympony. I said that I did. Did I know the big horn solo? Yes I
did. Was there anything unusual marked at the end of the solo. Not that I
knew
of. Eventually, curiosity got the better of me and I asked why he was
asking. "No reason," he replied, "just that I played it in a concert last
night
and at the end of the solo the first horn dropped dead - I wondered if it was
in the part."

All the best,

Lawrence
