[Audacity...] It is public domain software and is free.
One minor point of correction: Audacity isn't public domain software. It
is licensed under the GNU General Public License. If you're a software
person (or of that ilk), the distinction has more meaning than for the
average user.
It is, however, absolutely free and an awesome product to boot. Runs on
Windows, Linux, or OS X. Highly recommended!
