I was recently looking at the used tuba page on Dillon Music's web site. Several of the instruments were described as, "Being from the golden age of the concert band."
Judging from what's been happening here in SC, school bands are divided into two parts - the marching band, and the select wind ensemble. The concert band, if it exists, is made up of the left overs.
