Sorry, Francis, the operas title is "Lucia di Lammermoor". But I have to enforce what you said regarding Brahms 2. And, even sorry about ones disabilities like Asperger syndrome, such a person could never work in a call center e.g. no matter how hard this person works. There are qualifications, one MUST have. And in the music: it is necessary to have the abilitiy "learning by heart" & "reproducing by heart". Music making means diving into a special medium, adapting oneself to the new & special environment (halls acoustic, instrumentation, characteristics of the other players, characteristics of the particular conductor, characteristics of the particular instrument, etc. etc.) & creating or reproducing a new acoustical sensation (= another description of sound or a row of organised sounds). If one is not able to memorize that spontaneously (!!!), he or she will NEVER be a musician but (regarding horn) but a mere "tooter", nothing else. And a burden for the section. Hard but true.
Something else is quite ironic with this list: the many comments of incompetent members. They should better comment on things they know well, and I am sure they know other things than horn playing related matters much better than most members (perhaps !). How short is the memory ? When I posted about Zdenek Tylsars passing about ten days ago, there was not a single reply. Have you all forgotten this superb Czech soloist, who cruised the world, often playing double concertos with his brother Bedrich (Friedrich) ? Zdenek Tylsar died of an heart failure on August 19th or 20th in Prague at age 61. I am sure, many of you have heard about their recordings of the Telemann, Fiala, Rosetto double concertos or about Zdeneks many recordings of horn concertos from single Telemann concerto up to Strauss no.2, did you ? About Brahms 2: it is also interesting to notice, that nobody commented on my advice playing the H-horn solo on the F-side mainly. Does not speak in favour of you. Again Francis, thanks for telling them the truth. I am quite pleased I don't have to play the 3rd horn part of Luccia Di Lamamoor Glad I'm the first horn! ;-) Francis On Aug 28, 2006, at 7:16 AM, hans wrote: > Last comment (do not kill me for that): > If one is not prepared to read music in all keys & transpositions, why > applying for a first horn position ????? > This is the weird thing, I refuse to understand. _______________________________________________ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/hans%40pizka. de _______________________________________________ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
