So, that´s your goal - ruining the publishers, who keep prices stabil for many years (in my case, I kept prices for 20 years the same). What is a downloaded copy worth compared with a real printed & bound publication which will last for your life ???? If one like to go into this trade one must invest something, or not ?????
And the ur-ur-urfassung ??? What do you expect ? The text of this sonata is the same in all publications from the first edition to the newest. Differences (editions) are only regarding some dots & some slurs. That´s all. And these small things depend on the particular taste of a region or a particular fine player. How should an ur-ur-text help, if the young players are not capable following the text perfectly ? I taught so many masterclasses and too many students were not able, to remember a special most helpful advice until the next phrase. I let them play the whole phrase again & again, but they made the same mistake over & over. These ur-ur-text do not help by no way. BTW, the urtext is up on my site anyway since long, but you have to be most patient while waiting the loading process. Preparing unpublished rare things for free download is one thing, but making things available for free, things which every horn player should own, that is another thing. The next step would be asking for free lessons & next asking the makers for free rent of their instruments ..... If those would reduce unnecessary spending (magazines, movie, parties, fun dress etc.) they would be able to spend that few bucks for the standard library: Mozart 1 - 4, Rondo, Strauss 1, Beethoven Sonata, Hindemith Sonata, Brahms Trio, excerpt books .... We, the elder generation, the generation just before retirement, we had to work to get the money for our private music library. And we worked hard .... Many of you younger fellows, female & male, you have the wrong concept of life & of the profession including the study. ============================================================ ==================================================== -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jay Anderson Sent: Friday, September 01, 2006 3:48 PM To: The Horn List Subject: Re: [Hornlist] public domain editions No, I'm not looking for free copies. I already own a copy of the Beethoven. The problem is the edition was created after 1923 (an important year in US copyright law). I can't be sure what was from the original or what was from the editor. Therefore I need a much older edition to use as the source. My goal however is to make a free edition in which users can download, print, and modify if they so choose. Mutopia already has a few horn pieces (http://mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/make-table.cgi?Instrument= Horn). I don't really mind the effort it'll take to find this score and copy it. I'll be worth it to study an edition from back then. Ok, so how would one go about getting a copy of these editions? I envy you Europeans that are closer to such old art and music. Thanks for the help. I'll be able to search for these editions later today (after work). -----Horndude77 On 8/31/06, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The old Viennese publications during Beethovens life time !! SAo, is it worth to go through all libraries, finding an old publication to get it copied. Isn´t the effort too much in relation to the money ? It would cost you more anyway. _______________________________________________ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/hans%40pizka. de _______________________________________________ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
