The thing about the Assistant just playing a few odd notes brings to
mind a
work we did last year, Beethoven's Overture to the Ruins of Athens.
Horn 3
& 4 only have two notes within the first few measures of the piece then
nothing till the end.

Why did Beethoven bother to provide those two notes at all? Why not just
leave 3 & 4 out of the piece all together?
