The kid was completely unteachable because his dad was "helping" him and encouraged him to play like this. His already foot wide vibrato he exaggerated even more after a brass banding mate of his dad's told him it was "the sweetest tone he'd ever heard". (and no, I didn't have the option of not teaching him).
