Dear all,
I've been asked to play BWV 14 (with aria in B-flat) and been wondering if alto
or basso is ment. A corno da caccia is indicated in my edition (NBA). Is this a
short trumpet, or the long hunting horn?
Since the trumpet thing is a 20th century invention, you can just
translate "hunting horn" How long that horn is, is of course open to
speculation ;)
Looking at the score (the notes), I find arguments for both octaves.
I only know of recordings of BWV 14 played in B-flat alto, but hey, Harnoncourt
recorded BWV 143 in B-flat basso.
Any specialists around.....?
Regards, Rogier
I think all the recordings are alto for a reason. For one thing, the
violins play the same notes most of the time..... Good luck with your
high g''' s ;)

Michiel
