<I'm curious - do you mean insured against loss/theft, or against damage as
well?>
Yes, USAA insures my horn against loss, theft or damage anywhere in the world
w/ NO deductable -- all for $25.00 a year for valuables up to $5000. (USAA is
great!) This is not a standard homeowner's insurance policy. It's a special
policy I purchased separately. I had to declare the value of my horns up front
& will need to provide proof of ownership/value in case I file a claim.
If one has homeowner's insurance w/ a detuctable, perhaps insurance could be
purchased from the shipping company for the amount of the deductable only,
which should be less expensive than insuring the total value of the instrument.
That way the shipper's insurance will pay enough to cover the deductable & the
homeowner's policy will hopefully cover the rest.
It might be a good idea to check w/ your home owner's insurance carrier to see
if they have a reasonably priced valuable personal property policy available.
