Conducting is really fun if you get the desired result. If
you dont get it, conducting might be a burden instead. But
it is all up to you. Some people might not have the personal
dynamic to be a conductor. Conducting requires a leader
personality absolutely, The better you know a piece, the
easier as you can predict how it will continue.

Well, conducting costs a lot of energy, thus not many fat
conductors. Most are quite in a slim shape. It is some kind
of an elite sports. I could conduct two full orchestra
rehearsals of Walkuere last year. That was great fun or
better a great experience (means fun in a somewhat
"elevated" way - conductors stand elevated anyway !).

As an experienced amateur player, I'd say that your
suggestions are quite reasonable.

But I could never realize how conducting can actually be
fun.
