Sorry, Howard,

Just re-read the first posting - it says that they were recorded early
fifites.

A french friend of mine (who plays with a big, non-vibrato sound) tells me
that the trend to play with what we all see as "french vibrato" was all down
to one very influential teacher at the Paris Conservatoire. The teacher's
name escapes me for the moment. The style is now long out of fashion and
most,
if not all, french players now aim for a much bigger style with no vibrato,
a similar kind of sound that everyone else produces nowadays - sad really,

Cheers,

Lawrence
