These results seem somewhat similar to a story than ran in the Economist
earlier this summer.  Some folks ran test on wine tasting using brain
function scanners.  As best I understand the process, the scanners could
tell how the participants appreciated the wine.  The results were that if
the participants thought they were drinking the more expensive wine the
indications were they actually thought it tasted better.
