You should check out the Kanstul Copper-belled flugel if you want a "Horn-like" sound. A buddy in my quintet has one and it's too Horn-like to play along with the other guy when they need to double. OTOH, it's a *great* instrument when the line should be a pair of Horns - hard to do that in a brass quintet.

Aside from it's gorgeous sound, it is utterly stunning to look at. The pictures do NOT do it justice.

I'll now try and somehow reply to the many emails all at once...

What I'm looking for in the tone of the flugelhorn playing is more 'horn'-y
than trumpet-y. However I saw someone mention that this could limit your
playing in the register...Call me picky, but I would still want to be able
to play high like a trumpet (only up to Concert Bb above the stave) as some
jazz standards would require me to do so.
