The loss of a regional difference in "sound" isn't limited to musical sound. Consider regional accents, idioms, and dialects in spoken language. The fact is that if you record something for everyone to listen to, and everyone listens to it, then we all start to sound the same over time. First, there was nothing, then there was regional broadcast of television and radio, then national broadcasts. Now, any medium can be digitized and transmitted anywhere, instantaneously. It's all just a fact of the globalized world we live in. Blend it all together and it will eventually all take on a single color.
