I tend to agree with the other reply.

The 3rd slide isn’t wrapped as tightly as on a normal Bb horn.

Speaking in Pythagoras fraction, which is close enough to get the sense of 
dimensions:

The F extension on a Bb horn has to be 1/3 of the theoretical length of the Bb 
horn (the real horn is a bit shorter due to the effect of the wide bell).

The same way the 3rd valve of the F horn shall be 1/5 of the F horn length. 
Compared to a Bb horn the 3rd slide of the F horn has this length: 4/3*1/5. The 
resulting 4/15 of the Bb horn length is rather close to the 1/3 (=5/15) of an F 
extension for the Bb horn. And that 4th valve is larger than the normal 3rd 
valve of an F horn.
