This doesn't seem to be available in the US yet. That's the notice I got anyway. Sorry if someone has already mentioned this but I don't seem to be getting much hornlist mail lately.

I got the July 2009 issue of EQ magazine yesterday. In it is mentioned software for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows them to be used as audio recorders, including with external microphones. The program is called FiRe, and is said to feature an accurate waveform display and to allow "instand downloading/uploading of audio files."

Price is said to be $5.

I'm just passing this along; I don't have any experience with it. I know several of you out there in French horn land have iPhones, since you send me email from them, and probably also iPod Touches, which I do not.

Also, esp. for Jerry and Jeremy, I get EQ free because of my "prominent position in the audio engineering profession"; I don't pay for it. They should learn that for flattery to be effective it has to have some foundation in truth, which this doesn't, especially when applied with a trowel, like this. <g>
