Subject: [info-hotosm] Invitation to join urban CoP & webinar on mapping
To: "i...@hotosm.org" <i...@hotosm.org>

Dear Humanitarian Open Street Map team,

I am writing from ALNAP, a network of humanitarian organisations focused on
learning, performance and accountability. One of the areas we focus on is
urban disasters. We do a number of things to increase learning and provide
opportunities for the humanitarian community to engage in dialogue, debate
and share information about urban response. These include a resource portal
<http://www.urban-response.org/>, community of practice discussion forum
<https://partnerplatform.org/alnap/urban-response>, webinar series and
blogs. We have an upcoming webinar on 24 July on the topic of mapping in
urban environments. You can find more information about the webinar here:
https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4624774964080239361

One of the things we try to do is spark discussion in the community of
practice before and after the webinar. The webinar includes an element of
Q&A but there are always too many questions to answer during the webinar
itself. We also like to try and hear from others working in similar areas,
to see if they have experiences or thoughts to share. For this webinar, we
are focusing on mapping systems and gathering data. We will not have
sufficient time to talk about all the various types of mapping possible.
Stakeholder/crisis mapping, for example, may not get much coverage (though
we may do another webinar in future on these issues). In the meantime, we
hope to put a spotlight on mapping more broadly with the webinar, and use
the CoP as a way to provide space for some of these issues to be discussed.

We are hoping that you will join the webinar on the 24th, as you will no
doubt have helpful questions to ask our panellists, as well as potentially
being able to share your own thoughts and experiences. You can register for
the webinar here:
https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4624774964080239361 Please also
share this information with any colleagues who may find it relevant.

We are also hoping you will join our Urban Response Community of Practice
<https://partnerplatform.org/alnap/urban-response>. I will be posting some
questions in the CoP over the next few weeks in advance of the webinar, and
it would be great if you would be able to share your thoughts and
experiences within those discussions. I think your experiences from the
Humanitarian Open Street Map would be especially valuable.

I look forward to hearing from you, do let me know if you have any
questions.

Best wishes,

Leah Campbell
