Some remarks:

* New users often expect immediate answers, or just ask a question and
leave (like you would on a help site, which mails you about answers). It's
best to warn them to leave the page open as long as possible (until they
got an answer)
* After the sencentce "Alternatively, use the IRC client of your choice",
I'd mention the parameters: server is irc.oftc.net, channel is #hot.
* The user-friendlyness of IRC depends a lot on the client. I don't find
the osm standard IRC client very pretty, which may scare away people. It
might be worth to try some others like
https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.oftc.net/hot (though that should probably be
changed at the TM level)

Sander
