As others have said, unsplitting is not possible.  However the general
rule is people are not supposed to choose tasks to work on when there
are other people working on the next task over so you can just lock
one of the small ones, do as much mapping as you want in the area
(going outside your square) and then when you are done just mark
complete any ones you happened to finish.

Unless there are 10 people working on the same task it is unlikely
someone will choose that same area while you are working there,
especially since they should avoid the nearby tiles anyway.
