After having investigated the Java plugin situation with Google Chrome I have found there is a way to enable the NPAPI that has been disabled.
1. Open your Chrome web browser. 2. In the URL panel at the top type in chrome://flags/#enable-npapi 3. Click the "Enable" link for Enable NPAPI. 4. At the bottom of the page click the "Relaunch" button that has now appeared. Task completed and Chrome should now support Java plugins.
