Dear friends,

in supporting JOSM mapper with new skills (for more specialised tasks) I
converged on the idea of "tailored practice projects", allowing JOSM
mappers to learn and practice (more advanced) skills.

See e.g. and
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/3296
https://tasks.hotosm.org/project/3899

together with instructions at http://tiny.cc/mmjosm

I am not sure whether this idea has legs yet, but perhaps some of you would
like to feed back?

Clearly the projects ultimately run out of tiles, but they could be cloned
to other areas that need those skills for mapping? Also clearly, while they
are very useful in other ways, they don't respond to current emergencies.
However, through the practice projects, mappers learn skills that can then
be used in emergencies.

The instructions provided are tailored to the task, but would easily carry
over to another similar ask.

Feel free to try this out, and let me know what you think!

PS: We have another JOSM script for marking residential areas. So if
somebody has a project where that needs doing, that could be another
practice project. The idea could be to add the residential areas through a
script, but only do this at the validation stage. Thus the validator also
gets to map, rather than just checking. Let me know if you do residential
areas somewhere, and we could discuss.
