Mark,
I am still shoulder deep in Access these days!

It could be a corruption issue, or it could be that it was created with such
an old version that the newer version you are using is having some trouble
opening it.
MS says that shouldn't be an issue, but I have seen stranger things!

One option you can try is to create a new Access database (save it to your
desktop, or where-ever), then try to import everything from one of these
MDB's.
>From the Access Ribbons:
"External Data"->"Access"->
browse to MDB, and select "Import tables, queries, forms, reports, macros,
and modules into the current database"
then click OK.
In the next popup, do select all on each tab, then expand the options button
and make sure to select to import the "menus and toolbars", too, just in
case they used custom menus.
If that import works, you should have access to everything.
If it doesn't, try again, this time just importing the tables, then go back
and just import queries, and so on.
