Hey guys,

The replacement printer showed up Friday, and that one came up w/no
problems (except for the
typical Internet Exploder issues - FWIW, mine was due to either the
startup page pointer (I set mine to
blank) or one of those stupid AOL drivers that HP/compaq loves to
pre-install on your computer - after
blowing these away (after going through the driver reinstall "thing"
with the HP support guy), it fired
right up (and I managed to print my first test print w/o setting the
color management by application and
had it in the wrong oritentation, but it worked!!!).

But now I have some profiling questions - I calibrated the printer for
"maximum dpi" for HP photo satin,
set up photoshop (as per the instructions on several sites - "color
managed application", pointing to the
stock HP photo satin profile, yadda yadda), and while its close, the
photo colors still don't seem
quite right) - so my questions are:

1. file resolution - when you uprez/render for print, how many dpi are
you supposed to use with this printer?
(I had set mine to 400 DPI for this test print) - I haven't found
anything on this, and...

2. do the prints change color slightly as they dry? (I just printed it
out about 10 minutes ago, and...).

3. any comments on your experience using the stock profiles? How about
the $10 RIP (I have it but I haven't
installed it yet) - is it any good? Have any of you out there that
build/pay for custom profiles on other
printers decided the factory ones are "good enough"?

I'm wondering about the last points because I've got somebody that wants
to buy some of my prints, and I'd like
to run them on this rather than my canon S9000 (for the obvious
reasons), and I'm wondering if I gotta go through
the firedrill to write a check to Ethan to build up a couple of profiles
or what....

Thanks in advance,

rkg
