Hi, I tried one more time with hplip 0.9.10 patches -1 and -2 applied to fax from suse 10 to the ethernet connected printer.
While printing and scanning both work greatly, faxing does not. I get the following errors in /var/log/messages, both with hp-sendfax and through using the faxprinter via OpenOffice or any other Aplication: Apr 22 21:11:54 grey python: [ERROR] Coverpages disabled. Reportlab not installed. Apr 22 21:12:13 grey hpiod: unable to connect to port 9220 JetDirectChannel::Open: Connection refused hpfax:/net/HP_LaserJet_3390?ip=192.168.1.3 io/hpiod/jetdirect.cpp 124 Apr 22 21:12:14 grey python: sendfax [ERROR] Unable to open channel (Unknown internal error). Apr 22 21:12:14 grey python: sendfax [ERROR] Fax send error. Apr 22 21:12:16 grey python: sendfax [ERROR] Error, aborting. Now from the first serious (I think so) error "hpiod: unable to connect to port 9220 JetDirectChannel::Open: Connection refused" I concluded to check the printer's open ports. This is what I get: grey:~ # nmap 192.168.1.3 Starting nmap 3.81 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) at 2006-04-22 21:16 CEST Interesting ports on 192.168.1.3: (The 1659 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed) PORT STATE SERVICE 80/tcp open http 139/tcp open netbios-ssn 515/tcp open printer 9100/tcp open jetdirect MAC Address: 00:14:38:8C:A2:BB (Unknown) So port 9220 is clearly not open. Is there a way for me to open that fax/printer port? Or is the fax error related to other things?
