Sambaran,
It sounds like you have SELinux enabled. Currently HPLIP uses dynamic
port assignments for the hpiod process. This could be changing sometime
in the future, however for now you must disable SELinux on Fedora
systems for HPLIP to work correctly.
Please let me know if you need more assistance.

Hi,
I am using Fedora Core 3. I have a HP Deskjet 3940. I installed
HPLIP version 0.9.11.
The installation went smoothly. However, the problem is that when
I am running 'hp-setup', it exits, leaving an error message
[ERROR]: Unable to connect to hpiod.
I am sure that I have restarted the service hplip in /etc/init.d
and cups. To make sure, this is the result when I type
'service hplip status ' as root:
hpiod (pid 2519) is running...
hpssd (pid 2525) is running...
i.e hpiod is running.
Why hpiod can't be detected by hplip even though it is running?
I am new to Linux and HPLIP. Please advice me.
Regards,
Sambaran Banerjee.
