the process of installing the printer (once all dependencies and once
the HPLIP software is installed) should be as simple as (as root)
"hp-setup -a".
Thanks again. I note with gladness that I have /usr/bin/hp-setup
and that it dates from when I compiled the tarball.
Will I need to do something with CUPS before or after running hp-setup?
How will the printer name be determined?
By printer name, I mean the string that replaces name in
lpr -Pname fred.ps greg.pdf hank.txt
You wont need to do anything with CUPS (unless you have a non-standard
configuration.). If you use hp-setup to setup the printer you will be
prompted to enter the name for the printer. or you can use "hp-setup
-a" and the name will be auto generated. Usually the auto generated
name is something like Photosmart_3310, etc, etc.
I'm taking a very long weekend out of town
and away from my computer and e-mail.
Also something to keep in mind on fedora core you'll need to disable
SELinux.
