Usually if the make uninstall doesn't work it means that the ./configure command wasn't run. Try running:
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/
And then re-install. Let me know if you have any problems.

Aaron,
If you are watching the forum, on June 8 you sent me some instructions
to clean up my corrupted HPLIP installation on Ubuntu Linux. This
communication was done through the Sourceforge forum which seems to have
disappeared off the net. You asked me to run:
sudo make uninstall
from the directory to which I downloaded the tar ball.
When I run those commands I get an error telling me there is no such
command as uninstall. I searched through my terminal help to see if I
could find an equivalent command, with no success. So I moved the tar
ball to the trash and then tried to empty the trash. Again no luck. It
won't even let me delete the files if I run Nautilus using sudo. I
don't want to just skip this step in case I screw things up further.
Any suggestions?
Bob
