I have upgraded ho hplip 1.6.10 by manually compiling it.
I've come to the conclusion that CUPS sees nothing wrong.
CUPS thinks the printer is printing, and all is well.

Sorry for the contradiction with my previous post.

I see it as removing the printer after the first print job.
