I have upgraded ho hplip 1.6.10 by manually compiling it. I've come to the conclusion that CUPS sees nothing wrong. CUPS thinks the printer is printing, and all is well. /var/log/messages: (turning printer on) Nov 10 15:31:17 quartus kernel: [17280703.920000] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 22 Nov 10 15:31:17 quartus kernel: [17280704.052000] usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Nov 10 15:31:17 quartus kernel: [17280704.052000] hub 1-3:1.0: USB hub found Nov 10 15:31:17 quartus kernel: [17280704.052000] hub 1-3:1.0: 2 ports detected Nov 10 15:31:18 quartus kernel: [17280704.440000] usb 1-3.1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 23 Nov 10 15:31:18 quartus kernel: [17280704.532000] usb 1-3.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Nov 10 15:31:18 quartus kernel: [17280704.532000] drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 23 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid 0x7704 (printing first job) Nov 10 15:32:28 quartus hpiod: removing usblp driver interface=0 for hp:/usb/Deskjet_D4100_series?serial=TH66L830V804D6 io/hpiod/device.cpp 504 Nov 10 15:32:28 quartus kernel: [17280774.556000] drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed Sorry for the contradiction with my previous post. I see it as removing the printer after the first print job.
