Hello,
I'm writing to you ask if it would be possible to better explain the
procedure to follow to install an Ethernet HP product with HPLIP.
I installed the All in One PSC2575 a few days go, connected to a router.
I had to battle with firewall as my system didn't detect it while
iptables was running (I use Guarddog to configure it).
So I searched a little through web and my logs, and I saw that several
ports have to be opened to enable correct communication with printer:
- 2207 and 2208 tcp/udp for the two hplip daemons
- udp/9100 I guess for printing
- and first SNMP udp/161 port wich is used for initiating
communication (that explains that my printer wizard under Mandriva
didn't detect automatically the printer)
I have not tested all the possibilities, perhaps it is not necessary
to open all that ports...
This is not clearly mentionned in Helps pages furnished with HPLIP,
which is also the case for a network printer case as troubleshootings
lines consider only the USB connection case.
My printer works very good indeed, thanks to HPLIP, but as network
printers become cheaper, it could be a good thing to better detail this
case.
Thanks
Laurent Suchet
