Sorry to hear that you had some difficulties with the install.
Unfortunately, with dozens of Linux distros to support, and people's
machines, repository settings, and other variable factors, we have found
making an installer that works consistently 100% of the time to be very
challenging. We appreciate the feedback and will continue to work at making
the installation experience better (ie, simpler and more robust).
BTW, what distro are you using?

assume means a desk jet 3600. There wasn't one that came with Ubuntu, so

I thought I'd give you feedback about the automatic install though. The
library build near the end of the install errors with error 100,
whatever that is.
Perhaps a "dumbed down" version of the installer that didn't ask so many
questions wouldn't have errored, because I was guessing at my answers
most of the time.
