OpenSuse 10.2 system just installed in PC (Pentium 4), wired to an SMC wireless router, together with a wired Officejet 6310. The printer works perfect from/to wired & wireless WindowsXP machines. (Not a local printer!)
After installing HPLIP 1.7.1, the hp-setup program tries to detect and install printers. HP Officejet is perfectly detected under Network/Ethernet/Wireless conection with perfect identification of IP and Hostname and Device URI (hp:/net/Officejet_6300_series?ip=192.....). When I press <Next> button the proper PPD file is selected, but after the following <Next> the app fails to conect with the device, giving an error mesage: "Unable to communicate with the device. Please check the device and try again" ... In the Gnome terminal used to launch hp-setup there is an error message like this: "Unable to communicate with device: hpfax:/net/Officejet_6300_series?ip=192..... Please check the device and try again" From this point the installation of the device is possible, but useless, as the device doesn't work at all. After removing the bad installed device, I tried to install the printer under USB conection ... Perfect, all works fine. I tried to change the settings tab for networking, but nothing seems to be useful. The printer is finded with ping, and all troubleshooting help available has been used, finding the wired printer but not being able to make it work in any sense. Also found it through Firefoxing to local address of the device, finding listening port to be 9100 and showing no errors in the device, that is full working from/to others XP machines.
