Johannes-

Yes, I agree, that the terminal codes make a mess of redirected output. I
think what I would like to do is have hp-check write out a file without the
terminal codes along with the screen output. Would this satisfy the
requirement?

Thanks,

Hello,

probably a stupid question but I don't know anything about
how the terminal ESC code stuff works:

How can I run "hp-check" (and also the other tools)
so that I get only plain text output?

Reason:

When I run "hp-check" (and also for the other tools), the
output contains terminal ESC codes (e.g. to show text normal
and bold-face or in different colors).

This is nice for terminal output but annoying when I redirect
the output into a file, e.g. to save a long debug output
which I then like to attach to a mail as plain text.
