I understand that hplip doesn't currently support the M1005 as it seem to be a new product with nothing is common with a "standard HP printer", so it's not a simple usb PID/VID addition in a database. But could HP release the documentation to build a scanner driver ? I don't think there is a lot of IP in a scanner, especially when almost every other HP products have Opensource drivers (btw, I have buy the HP M1005 because of HP active opensource support). I have already some knowledge in USB programming (I've written an userspace linux "usblp" printer driver), so if HP give the doc, it should not be that hard to build a sane backend. I cannot reverse-engineer the driver since I only have a Win98 license and the HP windows driver want XP, so I cannot dump the USB stream. Maybe I should contact someone else at HP ? if so, it would be kind to give me his/her e-mail.
