Hello!

my system is:

kde 3.5.5
2.6.20-gentoo-r6 kernel
cups 1.2.10-r1
hplip 1.7.4a-r1

firewall is disabled

tmy printer ist an hp deskjet 6980 connect via ethernet/switch.

using hp-setup/toolbox everything seems to work fine (printer is
auto-detected in network and the device-uri is shown with the ip i find
in my router/dhcp), but on the last page (where the "send testpage to
printer"-checkbos is) i get an

FAILED TO CONNECT TO PRINTER

dialog.

the hp device manger says device not found. scheck connection and power
on device

connection is fine. it got an ip from dhcp and was auto-detected. => so
it is powered on ;)

ppd file ist exactly mathcing my printer version.

i managed to print the cups test page before i tried hplip using the
localhost:631 cups-interface and a more generic ppd (as far as i
remember it was just "hp deskjet series", was the onlyone cups provided
so i didn't choose it. it was preselceted). so printing is generally
possible.

has anybody an idea how to solve that problem?

thanks a lot in advance,

and best regards
