Hi, I own a HP-PSC-1315 and noticed an issue that affects the
performance of the printer driver compared to the windows drivers.
The printer prints slower in Linux, due to the fact that for each line
that is printed, the printer moves the cartridge completely up and down,
even if the print is located only in a specific part of the paper.
for example, I used a test page made in OpenOffice.org Draw, just to be
sure that it's not an application-specific problem. This test page
consists of a small black circle at the right corner of the page.
In Windows, the driver ensures that when the paper arrives at the
position where the circle is, it only moves the cartridge where the
circle is located, like that (better viewed in a monospaced font):

In Linux, however, the printer always moves the cartridge along the
whole page, like this:

|________________________________________________________

|_________________________________________________________
which obviously affects performance due to the long time when the
machine is moving the cartridges around to print nothing.
By the way, I'm using Ubuntu Feisty 7.04, with hplip 1.7.3, and have
checked that the newest version (1.7.4) doesn't fix this performance
bug.
Also, I'll use the opportunity to report that the Scan button (the blue
last one in the top of the printer) doesn't do anything except make the
On LED blink for a while. Maybe the daemon could load xscan or some
other scanning application (as set in the settings dialog)?
Thanks for the time and consideration,
Ronan
