Generic Patch Instructions
HPLIP 2.7.6 installed with tar or run file
1. Go to your unpacked directory
2. # make uninstall or #sudo make uninstall
3. # make clean or # sudo make clean
4 Download the hplip-2.7.6a-patch to your unpacked hplip directory
5. $patch -p1 < hplip-2.7.6-1.patch
6. $ ./install.py

I am currently using HPLIP 2.7.6 on my Deskjet 5440 with Ubuntu 7.0.4. I
had to reinstall from an older version after that failed a few weeks ago for
unknown reasons. After reinstalling, I managed to print, but so far all
documents from OpenOffice.org Writer fail to have any line spacing. So if
I have a double-spaced or empty row in my document, the printer fails to
recognize, causing all my documents to lose this formatting. The same
documents printed fine on my Windows boot. Could you please let me know
