Sure; my command-line crack was more toward the one-button requirement, rather 
than against command line args (also an approach I'd tend to use first, and 
generally if I'm going to write some code I'm going to try to write enough to 
eliminate the necessity of a GUI, so that part never gets done :)).

Shame about the polling-overhead-too-high.  It's too device can't send a packet 
or something out. From the online documentation, though, it seems I can program 
the buttons to send documents to a network location (windows/samba share, I 
assume), so I guess that'll do (then I can poll that directory...).


Thanks for your advice/suggestions.  I'll definitely contact you/the list if I 
get a hplip printer and start hacking on things...
