Hi,

I can scan from my OfficeJet G85 (and an OfficeJet K80) using hp-scan
and scanimage from the command line and using xscanimage from within
gimp when using a machine directly connected to the printer via usb.

I would like to be able to scan over a small home network from a
second linux machine and a windows xp machine, but don't seem to be
able to get this working (with the printer still connected via usb to
the first linux machine). Note that I can print without problems over
the same network.

Is there something about the way hplip and/or hpaio functions that
prevents network scanning from working?

As far as I can tell, the following setup should work:

1. /etc/inetd.conf (on the machine connected to the printer)
sane-port stream tcp nowait user.group /usr/sbin/saned saned

2. /etc/sane.d/saned.conf (on the machine connected to the printer)
192.168.1.*

3. /etc/sane.d/net.conf (on the remote machine)
192.168.1.100 [the ip address of the machine connected to the printer]

I am using hplip-2.7.6, sane-frontends-1.0.14 and sane-backends-1.0.18

Thanks
John
