A couple of problems with this all-in one printer. My setup consists of 2 PCs networked with the L7780 as a networked printer.
PC#1: AMD Athlon 1800+, 1GB RAM, Fedora7 uname -r = 2.6.22.5-76.fc7 hplip version = 1.7.4a, CUPS = 1.2.12 PC#2: Intel P4 450MHz, 256MB RAM, M$ Win2K PRO, HP Software ver. 8.0.0 (I also have Win2K Pro installed as a VM using VirtualBox on PC#1) 1. On PC#1 I created a 2nd printer, a copy of the 1st with duplexing turned off as the default. No matter what I do when I print selecting the 2nd printer it'll still do 2 sided printing, unless if I turn off duplexing on the 1st printer. This was not a problem with my old printer a PSC 2710v. 2. On PC#1, I'm not sure if this is a FireFox problem or not, but I can only the built-in web access one time, after that I will get an error indicating that the certificate from the printer was invalid, and will deny access. I have to go and delete the certificate restart FireFox and will gain access. I'll initially get the warning about the certificate, giving me a choice to permanently accept, one time only accept, or deny. Whether I accept the 1st or 2nd options, I'll get the same results on a 2nd attempt to access. On IE6 using either PC#2 or the VM Win2K it just gives me the warning with the options to accept each time. 3. Either PC. If paper tray #1 is empty, even though tray #2 is full the printer will stop indicating that it needs the tray to be refilled. I have it set to default, but have tried different combinations. When set to tray 2, it'll error even though tray 1 is full. Local functions seem ie: faxing using control panel or copying from control panel, the printer always wants to select from tray 1. 4. On the PSC 2610v it had a built in option when sending another fax after sending another fax, to send from memory or scan in a new fax. This option does not seem to be available on the L7780, it only gives the options to send whats on the glass, or scan in from the feeder. Is faxing from memory not available? And there seems to be features that are available that I can't seem to be able to access from either OS, or it's not so apparent as to how to access. On the Win2K side the software doesn't seem to fully install and seems to be missing parts of the guides. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
