I've now obtained a release candidate of Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy), which comes
with HPLIP 2.7.7. Unfortunately I still get the same error messages in
syslog when I run scanimage:
Sep 25 09:34:51 crystal scanimage: io/hpmud/mlc.c 179: unable to read
MlcReverseCmd header: Resource temporarily unavailable
Sep 25 09:34:51 crystal scanimage: io/hpmud/musb.c 1515: invalid MlcCredit
from peripheral, trying miser
