FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 7, 2009 911 Seattle Media Arts Center is on the move! Seattle, WA911 Seattle Media Arts Center is moving to Jack Straw Productions’ Warren Building in the University District. After a five year run in its South Lake Union facility, the Board of Trustees have signed a lease with the Jack Straw Productions for a suite of offices and classroom on the second floor of the Warren Building in the University District. 4culture has awarded Jack Straw an Emergency & Unforeseen Opportunity Grant to upgrade the electricity in the new space insuring that 911 Media can continue to retain its capacity for providing high quality instruction in the Media Arts. The Center will still offer scholarships to artists for instruction in post-production and pre-production video and new technology for the visual arts.
In other related news, Steven Michael Vroom has been named Managing Director & Curator of Exhibitions and Jonh Schwartz has been appointed Technical Director. “I look forward to working with Jack Straw and expect to learn a lot about the innovative use of audio which is what they excel at”, says Vroom. “911 has a rich background in video production and working with Jack Straw we can combine our memberships’ talents to create the most potent alliance for media technology in the state”.
911 Seattle Media Arts Center will offer exhibitions in partnership with various institutions across the city. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts is generously underwriting the Exhibitions program and will continue to do so in 2010. Screenings will also be held a various sites across the community.
By moving into the Warren Building 911 Media will be conveniently located at 43rd and Roosevelt, easily accessible to members and the public in the University District.
